SickKids（トロント小児病院）
病院内にはフードコートやSickKidsのグッズを販売しているショップなどもあり、日本の病院と比べると、とても明るい雰囲気でショッピングモールのような印象を受けました。
授業
病院内の薬剤師さんなどに講義を行っていただきました。小児や妊婦の薬物動態や抗菌薬の使い方、医療ミスを防ぐための工夫について英語で教わりました。考え方や工夫の仕方など、日本のシステムと同じところも大きく違うところもあり、とても勉強になりました。
病棟見学
病棟で、薬剤師や医師や看護師とともにチームで病室に行きました。常にチームで動いており、全員が同じ目標に向かって患者さんのために仕事をしていると強く感じました。また、チーム内での薬剤師の存在感の大きさを実感できる体験でした。
University of Toronto（トロント大学）
トロント大学薬学部の講義に参加させていただきました。
トロント大学の学生はとても積極的で、多くの学生は先生が話している間に手を挙げて、先生が質問の許可をくれるまで待っていました。
薬学部であるのに、口腔内(虫歯になる機序など)についての講義を3時間ほどかけて行っていることにとても驚きました。
トロントの街
夜に出歩いても、それほど怖くない平和なところだと感じました。
観光地も多くあり、休日にはショッピングセンター、ホッケーの殿堂、カサ・ロマ、サイエンスミュージアム、オンタリオ博物館、CNタワーなど様々な場所に行き、楽しむことができました。
SickKids (The Hospital for Sick Children)
The hospital has a food court and a shop selling SickKids merchandise; compared with hospitals in Japan the atmosphere is very bright, like a shopping mall.
Classes
Pharmacists and others at the hospital gave us lectures, in English, on pharmacokinetics in children and pregnant women, the use of antibiotics, and ways of preventing medication errors. Some of the thinking and the approaches were the same as in the Japanese system and some very different — I learned a great deal.
Ward visit
On the ward we went into patients' rooms as a team with pharmacists, doctors and nurses. They always moved as a team, and I strongly felt that everyone was working toward the same goal for the patient. It was also an experience that showed me how large a presence the pharmacist has within the team.
University of Toronto
We attended lectures at the Faculty of Pharmacy.
The University of Toronto students were very active: many raised their hands while the lecturer was still speaking and waited until they were given permission to ask their question.
I was surprised that, in a faculty of pharmacy, about three hours were spent on a lecture about the mouth, including the mechanism of tooth decay.
Toronto
It felt like a peaceful place where going out at night was not particularly frightening.
There are many sights, and on our days off we enjoyed visiting shopping centres, the Hockey Hall of Fame, Casa Loma, the Science Centre, the Royal Ontario Museum, the CN Tower and more.
