薬剤師を目指す学生のための海外フィールドスタディ

TCTP（Toronto Clinical Training Program）は、カナダ・トロント小児病院（The Hospital for Sick Children, SickKids）とトロント大学薬学部（Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy）で2週間、カナダの医療制度と薬剤師業務を学ぶ、立命館大学薬学部の海外留学プログラムです。病院・薬局での実務実習を終えた5回生が、その経験をもとに参加します。

「世界最先端の医療現場であるトロント小児病院で、臨床病棟体験や症例カンファレンスへの参加等を行う2週間の現地研修を通じて、カナダの医療制度・薬剤師業務を学びます。臨床に関わる病院薬剤師をはじめ、薬局や企業等で薬剤師として活躍していく薬学科生に、国際的な視野を身につけてもらうことを目的とした海外留学プログラムです。」

プログラムの3つの柱

1. トロント小児病院（SickKids）での研修病院薬剤師・レジデント・医師による講義、病棟見学（Clinical Ward Experience）、症例カンファレンス、Grand Rounds。小児の薬物動態、TDM、DI、BPMH、妊娠・授乳期の薬物安全などを学びます。
2. トロント大学薬学部（Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy）での授業トロント大学の授業に参加。トロント大学の学生（Pharmacy Pediatric Initiative）との症例検討やネットワーキングを行います。
3. 2週間の現地研修と、その前後出発前に英語ワークショップ・事前講義・ケーススタディを行い、帰国後は学んだこと・考えたこと・これからどう活かすかを英語のポスターで発表します。
参加の流れ対象は薬学科5回生（Advanced 科目のひとつ）。実務実習を終えた2月〜3月に、2週間トロントに滞在します。2020・2021年度はオンラインで実施しました。

トロント小児病院（SickKids）は、病院で研究や研修をするヘルスケアに関わる専門家や研究者を世界中から受け入れています。2015年〜2016年には、863名の医師のレジデントとフェロー、259名のリサーチフェローがSickKidsで現場トレーニングを行いました。

プログラムの歩み

  • 2015年5月 — SickKids の先生方との交流会（立命館大学）。SickKids と立命館大学が協定を締結
  • 2016年度 — 1週間のハーフスケールで先行実施（5名）
  • 2017年度〜 — 2週間のプログラムを本格実施
  • 2019年度 — 新型コロナウイルスの影響で派遣を中止。事前学習を実施
  • 2020・2021年度 — オンラインで実施。2020年度の取り組みは立命館大学の「教育、研究、社会貢献等におけるグッドプラクティス」に採択
  • 2022年度〜 — 3年ぶりにトロントでの現地開催を再開

An overseas field study for future pharmacists

The Toronto Clinical Training Program (TCTP) is a two-week study abroad program run by the College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Ritsumeikan University, at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) and the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Toronto. Fifth-year students take part after completing their clinical clerkships in hospitals and community pharmacies in Japan.

"Beginning from the 2017 Academic Year, the new 2-week long "Special Study Abroad Course" will offer opportunities to learn cutting-edge Canadian pharmacy practices at SickKids. Students will also be able to use the English language skills they acquired through the "Project-based English Program (PEP)" and "Pharmaceutical English Seminar" and build upon the specialized medical knowledge they developed through the "Clinical Clerkship in Hospital/Community Pharmacy" in their 5th year."

"By conducting this program, College of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Ritsumeikan University hopes to develop pharmacists capable of contributing their skills and talent to the world. Students study about the health care system and pharmacy practices in Canada though a two week long program where they attend clinical case conferences and clinical ward experiences at SickKids. This study abroad program aims to give pharmacy students the opportunity to acquire a global perspective in order to help them excel not only as clinical pharmacists in hospitals, but also as pharmacists working in dispensaries and industry."

Three pillars of the program

1. Training at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids)Lectures by hospital pharmacists, pharmacy residents and physicians; clinical ward experience; case conferences and Grand Rounds. Topics include paediatric pharmacokinetics, TDM, drug information, BPMH and drug safety in pregnancy and lactation.
2. Classes at the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy, University of TorontoStudents attend classes at the Faculty of Pharmacy and take part in case discussions and networking with University of Toronto students (Pharmacy Pediatric Initiative).
3. Two weeks in Toronto — and before and afterBefore departure: English workshops, preparatory lectures and case studies. After returning: students present what they learned, and how they will use it, in an English poster session.
Who takes partFifth-year students of the College of Pharmaceutical Sciences (one of the Advanced courses). The two-week stay in Toronto takes place in February–March, after the clinical clerkships. In AY2020 and AY2021 the program was held online.

* SickKids invites health-care professionals and researchers from all over the world to study and train at the hospital. In 2015-2016, there were 863 medical affairs residents and fellows and 259 research fellows who trained at SickKids.

History

  • May 2015 — Meeting with SickKids faculty at Ritsumeikan University; agreement signed between SickKids and Ritsumeikan University
  • AY2016 — One-week pilot program (5 students)
  • AY2017 onward — Full two-week program
  • AY2019 — Trip cancelled due to COVID-19; preparatory studies held
  • AY2020, AY2021 — Held online. The AY2020 program was selected as a Good Practice in education by Ritsumeikan University
  • AY2022 onward — In-person program in Toronto resumed
